AI AUTOMATION

Before you automate, understand the handover.

A practical starting point for teams exploring AI: find the repeated task, define the review and keep responsibility clear.

Begin with one piece of work

An automation conversation can quickly become a list of tools. We prefer to start with a task: what arrives, who handles it, what happens next and where the work gets stuck. A clear process gives an AI project something concrete to improve.

Choose a useful, bounded starting point

Consider a repeated task with a recognisable input and output. Examples might include organising incoming enquiries, preparing a first draft of a campaign brief or collecting information for an internal update. These are starting ideas, not promises of results; the right choice depends on the business and the information involved.

Decide where a person stays in control

Write down what the system may do and what needs review. A draft can be prepared automatically while a person approves the message. An enquiry can be organised before a team member decides how to respond. The handover should be visible and easy to follow.

Test the exceptions, too

Try the process with incomplete information, an unusual request and an incorrect result. Decide who checks the output, how errors are corrected and how the team continues if the automation is unavailable. Start with sample information before connecting a live workflow.

Measure the work that matters

Before a pilot, agree on a small set of observations: time spent on the task, corrections needed and whether the next person receives what they need. Use those observations to decide whether to expand, adjust or stop the pilot.
